Prefab Cabinets Picayune | Traditional Accents

Good afternoon trusty readers of the new and improved Prefab Cabinets Picayune! I am so glad you decided to join us today for another exciting and possibly informative article. Today must be one of the hottest days of the year. Fortunately we have yet to have any major storms come this way. Rain seems to be a damper nearly every other day and makes my life a lot more difficult than the average human. Speaking of life being extra hard I slammed the base of my ring finger knuckle against something in the shop and now I feel like I fractured my entire hand. There goes ever becoming a master violinist.

Traditional Accents

Today we are going to be discussing traditional accents in home decorating. I have made an executive decision and will from now until November be writing these articles in a fashion that reflects my own opinions about interior design. As for the more education articles obviously those can’t be based on opinions.

Traditional accents have been growing on my radar for several months now and I think I can say without damaging my conscious that I love a traditional look here and there. Whatever one deems “traditional” I guess is entirely up to the individual, however today we are going to be talking about my thoughts on traditional home accents.

In previous articles we mentioned plaid in other styles and designs such as fall decor for the upcoming season. Plaid can also be a traditional pattern. My personal favorites are black and white plaid throws over a couch or cushy armchair (which is called something but I can’t remember. I want one.) You got to be careful how you use plaid because just a subtle change can make or break the traditional look for it all together. Black and white plaid can easily fall into the rustic category. So if you don’t really like the rustic look, be aware that it’s a slippery slope when handling black and white plaid.

Luxury Vinyl Tile

Everyone who reads Prefab Cabinets Picayune knows that I am a huge fan of Luxury Vinyl Tile of all styles and designs. If I could have it all over my house I would…oh, wait…I will. Maybe not back in the day, but in today’s times LVT is a modern way to keep flooring tradition yet with a little flare. You can have the traditional hard wood look but with unique features. My personal favorite is the taupe color. There is so much that can be done around the taupe hard wood look LVT. I’m getting excited just thinking about the possibilities.

Silk Lamp Shades

I had never really given lamp shades that much thought until having to find one for my own house. I do not personally like silk lamp shades, but added for its traditional value they look great in a room. Beige silk can add some glamour to the traditional charm that will make the room pop. Just don’t spill anything on it—not that it would be easy–because silk stains are just impossible.

Floor Length Drapes

There really is something traditional and homey about floor length drapes. Sure, they are a pain to keep clean but that is what washing machines are for. Finding a nice pair of simple floor length drapes for my living room windows would make me so happy right now, along with another paint job on the walls… You can’t really go wrong with floor length drapes. Whether the window is short or tall they will work. Keeping it more traditional with a simple color will help you out too.

Tip of the Day

The tip of the day is brought to you by Wild’s Cabinets and Flooring. We got your back. Today’s tip of the day is watch where you swing your hands. If you are not careful you could end up with a throbbing hand like me with a shallow scratch on the surface that hides a deeper more agonizing wound. If I wanted to become a professional hand model now I can’t because I didn’t watch where I was swinging my hands. Be aware of your surroundings and protect your hands. It’s vital to your quality of life.
