Prefab Cabinets Hattiesburg | Walk-in Closet
Good afternoon readers of the new and improved Prefab Cabinets Hattiesburg! We are so thrilled you have come back to join us for another round of Prefab Cabinets Hattiesburg. This is our mini series edition based on our personal home remodeling experiences. We are doing this little run to help other normal folks doing their own home projects feel somewhat better about not being perfect in their work. Today started out sort of dreary and now we are in full blown rain storm. Fortunately the temperatures are staying mild enough for people to not have heat strokes.
The Walk-In Closet Experience
Most people dream of the perfect walk in closet in their homes, but not many people understand the kind of work that goes into it. Walk in closets are more work than entire rooms at times depending on the type of closet storage that is in there. For instance, our walk in closet is still unfinished. The floor is laid out and the sheet rock is finished. The wiring is set up and ready for light fixtures…as far as I know. So all that is left is the shelving and cabinets. Sounds easy? Yeah, it’s easy if you are a millionaire which coincidentally we are not.
The shelving we are putting in our closet is going to take up both walls and will be made to accommodate drawers and hanger bars. They are going to be painted an elegant antique white with antique looking hardware, or so we think. A little tip when remodeling your home is to give yourself some room to change your mind as you go along the process. Things are not always as easy or affordable as you think. Something we learned along the way is that paint grade plywood is expensive…like sell your arm and leg expensive. Take this into consideration when planning the shelving and what not in your closet.
Smaller Than You Think
At first we looked at this empty room branching from our master bedroom and thought to ourselves, “Man…yeah. This is going to be a huge closet.” Yeah, it’s not. Once we got the sheet rock up there and measured for the cabinets we quickly learned that it was not as big of a space as we initially thought. In fact we might be slightly cramped to be totally honest. I think we are going to be happy with the results regardless, but some people might need that extra space they were counting on. So make sure you take the different layers of a walk in closet into consideration before gestimating your space.
Do The Best With What You Got
At some point in your remodeling process you are going to come to a place where you have to pick and choose what to get done and what to make do. Right now the closet is done enough for us to cramp a dresser or two in there and make do. There are more important spaces to get done personally, like the holes in the roof… That’s what happens when you leave your man in complete charge of the remodeling timeline. Do not be afraid to speak up, girl. Tell him how much better it will benefit y’all if he gets that hallway fixed and that living room torn down asap. So bottom line is that it’s okay if your walk in closet is not completely finished yet. Make sure to get your priorities lined up first and then once you have done your planning you can get back on the closet. It will be worth the wait.
Tip of the Week
The tip of the week is brought to you by Wild’s Cabinets and Flooring. We got yo back. Today’s tip of the week is make sure you know what you are doing with a walk in closet before you buy any of the materials. You are in the process of a big remodeling project and you do not have time or resources to spend on things you won’t need. Plan and research before you do anything. The fewer mistakes you make the better especially when big money is involved. Be smart and make the plan and know what you are doing.
