Prefab Cabinets Hattiesburg | Our Remodeling
Good afternoon readers of the new and improved Prefab Cabinets Hattiesburg! We are glad you are here to join us on this fine summer’s day. Not only is the heat here, but it has died and is laying on top of Poplarville, Ms. Now to await Fall to come down and clean up the remains so we can finally breathe. We started a mini series about my experience with home remodeling. Today we are continuing the mini series. Hopefully some of you will learn from our mistakes and maybe even be encouraged by our experiences.
Hall Baths
Okay, so a hall bath doesn’t sound like it would be too awful of a project, right? We have learned that it always seems to be the projects that you think are going to be simple and quick are the ones that are going to knock you down on your rear. Our hall bath is small to say the least, but we managed to fit in a full tub/shower with a toilet and vanity. Is it cramped? Heck yeah. But it works. We can look back now at the mistakes we made when remodeling the hall bath and kind of chuckles, but at the time it was not too funny.
Tile
If you have never done anything with tile before then I highly suggest you have someone with you who can help guide you. Or at least have access to someone who can answer any questions you may have. Our first time hanging tile all along our shower walls was not as bad as it could be, but we learned some valuable lessons along the way. First of all, make sure to not let the setting get too dry. Once you lay it along the wall you better get that tile up there quick or else you are going to be watching a movie when you hear tile falling off the wall and chipping your brand new porcelain tub that you now have to patch.
Shelving & Storage
Do not expect to have a lot of storage and shelving in a small hall bath like ours. We had to get smart and crafty when creating space for towels and rags. Our bathroom is narrow and tall so we were able to make a long shelf on top of beautiful white washed hardware. We also picked up five hooks that we white washed and screwed them into the planks on the walls at different angles for some creative expression. Another little mistake we made when remodeling the hall bath is we didn’t take into too much consideration the darkness of the stain and flooring. The flooring is another story, but the stain we purchased was just a shade darker than the one we were looking for and it went on so dark that now we have a hard time balancing out the contrast.
The flooring is going to be replaced at some point. This was the flooring we got at a wholesale place and even though it wasn’t the cheapest it still has not lasted. After a few months the planks started pulling apart. This was unacceptable and we plan on switching out the flooring as soon as we can. For the vanity we came across an old piece of granite with a sink already in it. It’s a shade darker than white, maybe a cream color and it did wonders for the brightness of the bathroom. I woman’s suggestion to add color and brightness to a small dark bathroom is to look for bright happy towels and rags and accessories. It will definitely help.
Tip of the Week
The tip of the week is brought to you by Wild’s Cabinets and Flooring. We got yo back. Today’s tip of the week is to make sure you think through all the possibilities when remodeling a small space. You do not want to make the space dark in any way because it will shrink it even more. Your goal is to add dimension, width, and height to your small space. Do not go for dark flooring or wall colors. If you want a contrast add dark accessories. But be careful when picking out the wall colors and flooring. It can make or break your space.
