One Color Themes

Most of the time we are told to mix things up when it comes to designing our home. But in today’s news app on my phone I spied in a article that I did not read, but glanced at the picture and inspiration struck me. The picture was of a living room and it was decorated in a single color, but in different shades. The result was sultry and beautiful, if not mesmerizing. Not everyone digs the single color theme, but for yours truly I believe it could work in numerous ways that will fit just about anyone’s preferences.

All Out or All In?

For those home owners who are a little skeptical about the idea of decorating in all one color, there is nothing wrong with taking things slow. Try adding similarly colored pieces little by little. That way you are incorporating the one color theme, but at your pace and your moderation. We at Wild’s Cabinets and Flooring understand that not everyone want to go all in with certain themes and designs, but they still want a little taste of the action in their homes. This is a great way to do that.

How To Put It Together

After you have decided which color you are wanting to use, start with smaller pieces at first. This way you can make sure that this is the theme and color you are wanting for your home. You may go all out and realize that you despise the color yellow and now you have an entire room covered in the color yellow. There’s nothing you can do except start all over. If you start with small pieces at a time you can quickly gauge whether or not this theme is for you.

What About Flooring?

This is where you need to be extra careful. What sets apart a dynamic beautifully executed home design is well-thought out taste and structure. You need an eye for these things. If you throw in purple floor along with everything else purple there is nothing to balance out and set off the color. It will all blend and you and your guests will feel like you have been swallowed up by a giant already been chewed bubble gum monster. And No one really wants that. When picking out flooring for this theme you will need to find something that goes with the sub theme as well as contrasts the color. Simple flooring would be the best.

Sub Themes

Finding the correct shade of decor will be fine, however sub themes are important to note in this design. Just because you are doing an all one color design does not mean it will not take on a, for instance, rustic or traditional approach. Make sure to decide what kind of sub theme you are wanting for your all color design before you dive into it. This will help you decide which articles of decor to purchase for your space.
