Custom Cabinets Picayune | Hallway Designs
Good afternoon readers of Custom Cabinets Picayune! It sure has been a little while since we ended our last Custom Cabinets Picayune series. Wild’s Cabinets and Flooring is back and ready with another set of informative and entertaining articles to set your minds and home remodeling fears at ease. For more reference go back and read our previous articles in our Custom Cabinets Hattiesburg series where we discussed topics involving home designs from Scandinavia to cacti and how they have been incorporated into today’s latest home trends. For those of your wondering, the weather in South Mississippi has finally warmed up somewhat today. We’ll see if the chill creeps back in.
Hallways
One topic Wild’s Cabinets and Flooring has yet to address in our Custom Cabinets Picayune series is hallways. What does a person do with a hallway? So many questions encapsulate the idea of hallways. We love them. We hate them. But regardless we still never know what to do with them. Even on our best creative juice flowing days we seem to never know what to do about the elusive hallway decoration. Is furniture appropriate for a hallway? If so which kind? People everywhere are asking themselves the same questions and Wild’s Cabinets and Flooring are here to help shed some light on the subject.
To Rug or Not To Rug?
The dreaded rug debacle. Where do I put it and what kind do I get? Those are always the questions when deciding which floor decor to put down in hallways. The first thing you should do before considering what kind of rug to purchase is what shape and size is your hallway? A smaller hallway is going to look completely overwhelmed by a larger rug whereas a larger hallways is going to swallow a small rug. Rugs come in different shapes and sizes to help accommodate the diversity of hallways.
Paintings
What better of an opportunity than to take advantage of the situation and throw a bunch of paintings in your hallway? Longer hallways are better suited for a display of paintings, particularly larger paintings. Hanging painting and wall art is a great way to cinch up some of that wasted space while still maintaining a clean, fashionable look in your hallway. The design of your hallway will determine how you decorate, especially coming down to the minimalist or bohemian home designs. Both tend towards the complete opposite sides of the spectrum.
Mirrors
One of the favorite hallway decorations among home owners are mirrors. People love putting mirrors in their hallways. One of the reason is that a mirror creates an illusion of a larger space. If your hallway is a bit on the smaller side then adding a mirror will certainly add some illusionary space. Another reason people like to put mirrors in hallways is it gives people a chance to inconspicuously check themselves out. Mirrors are a great and inexpensive way to add charm and decor to a hallway. And if mirrors are not your thing then keep reading!
Plants
Fake foliage is always a lovely option to decorate a hallway. You can go to any of your local arts and crafts stores and find dozens of fake flowers, vines, succulents–there is something for everyone. If fake is not your bag then go for the real thing. Living plants is a great natural way to bring out the liveliness of your otherwise barren hallway. Floor stands, window hangers, and ceiling pots are all possibilities for hallways of any size. Plants and flowers are also a great way to add color to a bland hallway.
Furniture
If your hallway is on the larger side and you have the means, sculptures and furniture are an ideal option. Armchairs, bookshelves, desks, and tables would all make great space takers for an empty hallway. Take the style of your hallway into consideration before purchasing furniture. You want to make sure that the design of your furniture and hallway are going to go with each other. If you are not careful then your hallway will end up looking eclectic and if that is not the style you are going for you will be in for a rude awakening.
