Custom Cabinets Hattiesburg | Paint Names
Good afternoon readers of Custom Cabinets Hattiesburg. Today is a great day, said no one ever. Because surely today has been this horrible for everyone throughout history. There is no way that this day could have been this atrocious for just me. Or maybe I got that backwards. Why can’t people stop being such asshats and igmos? This would save the world from plenty more heartache and headaches. If people would just stop being so rude and self centered the world could be an emotionally better place. Or maybe that is hopeful thinking. Or maybe not.
Paint Names
Am I the only person who has noticed the hilarity and drama associated with the names of paint colors? What do they mean? Surely there has to be some kind of significance to them since they are so elaborate most of the time. Wild’s Cabinets and Flooring understands the importance of paint color names. For example, there can’t be twenty different green colors and they all be called green. No one would get anywhere in life if they went to the paint store and said, “Hey, I’d like a gallon of that green paint.” And then have to stare at twenty shades of green with all the same name. There is no way that would end well in the long run.
Are Paint Color Names Sexist?
Here is something that I’m sure our nation would love t squabble about some more. Are paint color names sexist? I mean, let’s think about it for a minute. Go into the closet paint store you can find and look at the names for all the pink colors and then look at the names for say all the brown colors. What do you notice there? Yes, all the pink names are feminine and dainty and fabulous. The brown names are all rugged or sturdy or formidable. I personally think this is a little suspicious, but I am not complaining because I think pink colors should have those kind of names because it’s just pretty. Brown is icky unless it is the color of chocolate. Let’s also get this straight before our phones start ringing off the hook. Wild’s Cabinets and Flooring is in no way starting crap with the names of paint colors. Is it funny that the names are kind of typical of the mouth breathers in this world? Yeah, but we’re not starting a stink about it.
Color Names Throughout the Years
So we couldn’t find anything “historical” about paint names, but here is a list of names and colors that I think will prove some points I am making in this article. Pinks: bubblegum pink, poodleskirt pink, pink chiffon, carousel pink, spice pink, boysenberry, peony pink, royal fuchsia, raspberry, petal pink, electric pink. Here are some disturbing pink names: flesh. Listen to the names of some of these browns: burnt sienna, Mississippi Mud, Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, and Cocoa. Just saying. Maybe the browns are not as masculine as I had initially thought, but the feelings are still there.
Where Do The Names Come From?
Has anyone ever sat down and thought to themselves, “Where do paint color names come from?” I mean, for real. Who are these people who sit down and are like, “This red is more like a cherry than a brick red so let’s call it Cherry Brick Red?” I honestly would love to know how this process takes place in paint companies. What does it take to become a paint color namer? Do you need a degree? I am sure you probably need an extensive art degree because you can’t have just any fool staring at a color and naming it, especially if they are color blind.
How Will Paint Color Names Change?
Like everything, paint color names are sure to change in the future. The things people relate to will change so when there is a color called dial telephone beige no one around is going to know what the crap that is. So now the names will have to evolve just as people and time changes. Personally I’m not overly enthused about the idea of having a color called Facebook Blue. Just saying. That would be disconcerting. Maybe not to anyone else, but I don’t want to see it. Speaking of…
